"Gallaudet students were thrilled to be able to finish their degree plan on time with OCICU courses covering the ones that were not available during a specific term at their institution. Students also appreciated the experience of online learning and meeting other students from all over the country."

Director, Office of Distance Education

“As a charter member of the OCICU, Culver-Stockton College has been utilizing consortium courses since 2005.  We value the flexibility and convenience of the classes offered through the OCICU that allow our students to stay on track for graduation.  The SMS system is user-friendly, and OCICU representatives are quick to respond to our questions.  OCICU provides a convenient way for students to access a variety of general education courses, as well as upper-level courses in many majors.”

Associate Dean of Instruction

“OCICU is a great resource to have in those the unique moments when a student needs a specific course that is otherwise unavailable.

There are a variety of courses, and it is easy for institutions to review course descriptions and syllabi to be sure that the learning outcomes of an OCICU course are in sync with the home institution’s requirements.  Sometimes I need a specific course, say a PSYCH 101, but other times I may need a broad fine-arts option, and OCICU provides diverse course options for me to select from (humanities, fine arts, general arts, music appreciation, etc.).  It’s nice to have the options to provide to my advisees.

I think a major piece of advice for anyone who would like to offer OCICU courses is to be sure that they are very familiar with the OCICU process – from registration at the home institution to the OCICU side, to the essentials of preparing students for the reality of online, accelerated learning and the steps of accountability that come along with it. As such, Academic Advising and a strong rapport with the Registrar’s Office is essential for placement in any OCICU course.”

“As Higher Education continues to evolve and respond to the changing economic landscape, it’s part of our strategic plan and mission for Gannon to provide as many opportunities and strategies as possible for students to complete their degree. Our participation in OCICU over the past 12 years has been an important part of that strategy. OCICU has been a valuable option in helping our advisees that are experiencing a hardship or scheduling conflict complete their degree. Our participation in the consortium gives our students the ability to reach their professional and educational goals.”

Tex Brieger
Director of Distance Education
Gannon University

Data shows that Heritage University students who take OCICU courses are just as successful as students who take the same courses face-to-face on campus. We joined OCICU when we found we didn’t have enough students filling upper division courses. As result, we are able to offer a high quality courses to our own students and students across the country. We fill our courses, bring in additional tuition income, and help students who otherwise wouldn’t have access to course content. Our students take OCICU courses that we don’t have the capacity to offer, which provides our students with the depth and breadth they need to be successful in their college career and beyond. Our faculty and students ask for OCICU courses now because of their proven track record for success and quality.”
